Housing in Ancient Rome
In ancient Rome, families lived together in multi-family buildings known as "insulae." These structures were common for urban dwellers.
Water Supply
In some buildings, such as those in the region of Klaudia, there was often no access to water. Important rooms like bathrooms and kitchens were also frequently absent from these insulae. Conversely, public water supplies existed, and public latrines were available, which served the sanitation needs of the community.
Public Amenities
Public baths, referred to as "thermae," were part of the public infrastructure. These facilities, alongside food establishments known as "thermopolium," highlighted the social and recreational aspects of Roman urban life. Living conditions in insulae were challenging due to overcrowding and lack of resources.
