Chapter 1: Intro to Agile and UX Foundations
Managing the Information Systems Project
Project: A planned undertaking of related activities, having a beginning and an end, to reach an objective
Focus of project management:
To assure that information system projects meet customer expectations
Delivered in a timely manner
Meet constraints and requirements

User Experience (UX)
UX is concerned with developing high-quality interactive systems, products and services that fit with people and their way of living
Three core UX principles:
Usability: Can users complete their goals easily and effectively?
Accessibility: Can everyone use the site? Can anyone with disabilities use our product as efficiently as others?
User Satisfaction: Does your product leave your customers feeling good? Is your product trust worthy?
Project Management and UX Intersection
Project managers should understand user needs and UX principles because they need know understand what the users want/need to deliver a satisfying product
JetSmart ex:
JetSmart decided to make an inventory tracking system to track all their inventory parts, it is released to the mechanics. However the mechanics disliked it and found it a waste of time and cumbersome so they refused to use it. JetSmart made the mistake of not working with the mechanics throughout the project to ensure that the new inventory system would be acceptable to their needs.
When to use the users?
Planning phase: Get user input on what you need, etc
Analysis/Design Phase: Show the users what you have so far and receive feedback on design, usability, features, etc
Implementation Phase: Document user experience, etc
System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
1: System Planning and Selection
2: System Analysis
3: System Design
4: System Implementation & Operation
How to convince top management and stakeholders?
Bad UX detracts users and drives them to competition
“Pay now or pay later!”
Cost of change curve:
The longer you wait, the more expensive it will be

Role of the Scum Master:
Can advocate for you against top management that UX is a necessity
Can be applied to any project/project development order
Keeps the team focused throughout the entire Sprint (completing tasks for project in the time frame)
Scrum: Comes from rugby where everyone huddles and talks strategy, all about collaboration
UX Principle | Corresponding Questions | Potential Problems if the principle is not applied |
Usability | Can a user accomplish their goal easily and efficiently? | People will feel dissatisfied and will move to another site |
Accessibility | Could a user have appropriate accommodations and still use our site while being cost effective? | Potential legal issues if you do not have the required accessibility aids Users who need accommodations will not use your sit |
User Satisfaction | How do users feel using your site? Is it trustworthy? | People won’t feel happy/satisfied using your site and might move to competitors, brand image will suffer |
Introduction to AI Tools for UX Research and Analysis
AI UX Research
Traditional UX Research vs AI UX Research
AI Advantages: Quick, efficient, cheaper and more available for the average user to use, fast for processing large data sets, good at pattern recognition, good forecasting
AI Concerns/Disadvantages: Humans are more creative, better insight on what the users need, AI doesn’t have empathy, AI is not ethical, AI needs human oversight
The Three Tool Categories
Category 1: Data Collection and Synthesis Tools
Category 2: User Behavior Analysis Platforms Tools
Category 3: Content & Prototype Generation Tools
The Three Analysis Superpowers
Superpower 1: Pattern Recognition in User Data
Superpower 2: Sentiment Analysis & Feedback Processing
Superpower 3: Predictive Analytics for User Experience
