  • 2 lower class men talking, 2 nude women (assumed to not really be there, muses of the men)

  • Bacchus saved Ariadne from the island & made her into a constellation

Titian - Pesaro

  • Joseph is in the dead center, 2 pillars behind him

  • Admiral Pesaro’s commission

  • Saint Sebastian depicted in the painting

Danae and the Shower of Gold

  • Gold in the painting represents Zeus, who impregnates Danae & she has Perseus

  • Dog on the edge of the bed(?) that’s asleep, lady in waiting & girl training to be a lady in waiting in the background, chest holding a bride’s dowry

  • Meant for the bride herself

  • Not as detailed or refined as his other paintings due to his failing eyesight & arthiritis

  • Her husband took care of the kids so she can be the main painter (since she’s better lol)

  • Considered the first feminist painting (Christ appearing to a woman first after resurresction)

Mannerism —

  • Imperfect, not realistic or less

Last Judgement, Michaelangelo, Sistine Chapel

  • Originally, the figures were all nude, but “the master of the trousers” painted the cloths in after Michaelangelo died

  • Mikey wanted them to be nude to match the ceiling, but the church was very conservative at the time

  • Saint Bartholomew who was skinned alive

Pontormo - Entombment

  • Very bright color (almost neon looking)

  • Figures all piled up, proportions all messed up, exact realism is gone

Bronzino - Allegory with Venus and Cupid

  • Golden apple symbol for Venus

  • Mother and son (Venus & Cupid)

  • Kronos?, Disgust, Insanity/Siphylls(?)

Parmigianino - Madonna with the long neck

  • Imperfect proportions

  • Mercury holding a scroll

  • Choir of boys (long ass legs)
