To convene is to start a new term. Congress convenes every two years on January 3rd of every odd-numbered year. It follows the general elections in November.

Currently, congressman Mike Johnson is the current Speaker of the House elect. The current President of the Senate is Vice president Kamala Harris.
Identify whether the Presiding officer in the House is a voting member and what must happen before they can debate.
As an elected member of the house, the Speaker of the House may debate and vote on any matter before that body. If they choose to do so, they must appoint a temporary presiding officer, and that member occupies the Speaker’s chair.

Explain what it means when I say the US is a representative democracy.
The US is known as a representative democracy because people elect other people to represent their voices in government. These people's representatives are responsible for the daily work of the government.
Now knowing what a representative democracy is, identify your responsibilities as a citizen to make it work.
The responsibilities of a citizen include being able to vote, run for office, protest, and petition. These civilian responsibilities allow for our government to keep running.
Define the word bicameral and explain how it connects to our legislative branch.
Bicameral refers to two legislative houses. Our own legislative branch is based on bicameralism.

The current size of the House of Representatives is 435 members, equally distributed among the States in population.

A senator must meet a higher level of qualifications than the House.
A senator must be at least 30 years old

Explain what expressed powers are and provide an example for each.
Expressed powers are those of the National Government explicitly spelled out in the Constitution. An example of expressed powers is creating law.
Do the same for implied powers.
Powers that exist because we assume they exist. An example is the government creating a tax to collect taxes from the people.

The inherent power creates the national government for the US. The power to create law is an inherent power.
