Translating Surahs
Al-Fatihah (The opener or the key)
1 - In the name of Allah, the all merciful (or compassionate), the very merciful (or especially merciful)
2 - All praise belongs to Allah, the lord of all worlds
3 - the all-merciful (or compassionate), the very merciful (or especially merciful)
4 - the master of the Day of Judgment
5 - You alone we worship and ask for help
6 - guide us on the straight path
7 - the path for those who you have blessed not who you are displeased with or have gone astray
Al-Bayyinah (The Clear Proof)

Al-Zalzalah (The Earthquake)
1- When the earth is shaken with its (last) quaking
2- and when the earth throws out (all) its burdens
3- and man cries “What’s wrong with it”?
4- On that day, it will tell all
5- because your lord has inspired it (to do so)
6- on that day people will be separated to be shown (the consequences of) their deeds
7- So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it
8- and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it
Al-Adiyat (The Courser)
1- By the galloping, panting horses
2- striking sparks of fires with their hooves
3- launching raids at dawn
4- stirring up clouds of dust
5- and penetrating into the middle of the enemy
6- mankind is ungrateful to their lord
7- and he is a witness to this
8- and he is excessively in love with his wealth
9- does he not know that when the contents of the graves will be spilled out
10- and the secrets of the heart will be uncovered
11- their lord is all aware of them on that day
AL-Qari’ah (The Calamity)
1- The Striking Calamity.
2 - What is the striking calamity?
3 - And what will make you know what the striking calamity is?
4 - It is the Day then people will be scattered like moths,
5 - and the mountains will be like wool
6 - for those whose scales are heavy (with good deeds)
7 - will have a pleasant life
8 - but for ones whose scales are light
9 - their home will be an abyss
10 - and what can make you know what that is ?
11 - it is a blazing fire
At-Takathur (The Rivalry in World Increase)
1- competition for more (worldly gains) diverts you (from Allah)
2- until you go into your grave.
3- No! You will come to know
4- Then, no! You will come to know.
5- No! If only you knew with certainty
6- You will surely see the hellfire
7- then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty
8- On that day you will be asked about your (worldly) pleasures
Al- Asr (The Declining Day)
1 - by the declining day (time)
2- mankind is in (grave / deep) loss
3- except those who beleive, do good deeds, urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance / steadfastness
Al- Humazah (The Slanderer)
1 - woe to every backbiter
2 - who amasses wealth and (continuously) counts it
3 - thinking his wealth will make them immortal
4 - No, he will be thrown into the Crusher!
5 - And what will tell you what the crusher is?
6 - it is Allah’s Fire
7 - that rages over the hearts
8 - it will be closed upon them
9 - in towering columns
AL-FIl (The Elephant)
1 - Have you not seen (prophet) how your lord dealt with the army of the elephant?
2 - Did he not completely stop their plan?
3 - He sent against them flocks of birds
4 - that pelted them with stones baked of clay
5 - leaving them liked chewed up straw
Quraysh
1 - Allah did this to make Quraysh feel secure
2 - secure in their winter and summer journeys
3 - let them worship the lord of this house
4 - who has fed them against hunger and made them secure against fear
AL-Ma’un (The Small Kindnesses)
1 - Have you seen the one who denies the judgement?
2 - that is the one who pushes aside the orphan
3 - and does not encourage others to feed the poor
4 - so woe to those who pray
5 - but who are heedless (aren’t mindful or careful) of their prayer,
6 - those who only show off,
7 - and refuse to give small kindness
Al-Kawthar (The Abundance)
1 - We have granted you (prophet) abundance (of goodness)
2 - so pray to your lord and offer him sacrifice
3 - the one who hates you is cut off (from all goodness)
Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers)
1 - say (prophet) “O disbelievers
2 - I do not worship what you worship
3 - you do not worship what I worship
4 - I will never worship what you worship
5 - you will never worship what I worship
6 - you have your religion, I have my religion
An-Nasr (The Divine Support)
1 - when Allah’s help has come and victory over Mecca is acheived
2 - and you see people embracing the religion of Allah in crowds
3 - then praise your lord and ask for forgiveness, He is always accepting repentance
Al-Masad (The Palm Fiber)
1 - May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and him too!
2 - His wealth and gains will not help him
3 - he will burn in a flaming fire
4 - and so will his wife the carrier of firewood (she used to throw thorns at the prophet and slander him, meant to symbolize the firewood she’ll carry in hell)
5 - around her neck a rope of palm-fiber
Al-Ikhlas (sincerity or purity)
1 - Say “Allah is one”
2 - Everyone needs Allah, Allah needs none
3 - He never had offspring nor was He born
4 - Nobody is equal to him
Al-Falaq (The Daybreak)
1 - I seek refuge in the Lord of Daybreak
2 - from the evil of everything he has created
3 - and from the evil of the darkness / night when it settles / gets dark
4 - and from the evil of the witches who blow on the knots (preforming magic / spells)
5 - and from the evil of an envier when they envy
Al-Nas
1- I seek refuge with the lord of mankind
2- the king / master of mankind
3- the god of mankind
4- from the evil of the whisperer
5- who whispers into the hearts of people
6- from among jinn and mankind
