CHAPTER 1
In the state of New Jersey one must carry a license, or a probationary license or a New Jersey permit.
With a permit, you need a licensed driver
If you’re a legal resident of NJ you must be licensed in NJ
If you’re traveling, theres only a specific time frame, and if you go above that then you need to change licenses
Change Addresses? — Inform MVC within ONE WEEK
Change name? — Inform MVC within TWO WEEKS
If you’re a motorist with an out-of-state license, you need to apply the NJ license within 60 DAYS OR BEFORE THE CURRENT LICENSE EXPIRES.
If you have a CDL—commercial driver's license—within 30 DAYS.
The 6-Point ID verification helps to eliminate fraud and abuse.
Altering the driver’s license may result in loss of DRIVING PRIVILEGE, FINE UP TO $1000 AND 6 MONTH PRISON.
All licenses go up to 4 YEARS.
When heading to the NBC you need 6 points of ID
Some documents are worth 4, 2 or 1
Driver’s license, birth certificate, passport (atleast one primary document)
2 POINTS: School ID, 1 POINT: Social Security Card & Bank Statement (atleast one secondary document)
Once you get 6 points ID, you need to show proof of address.
Show checking or savings account
Utility or credit card bill
Property Tax bill
Lease agreement
If you are under 18, they will accept your parent’s documents.
GDL: Graduated Driver License
A solution to prevent teenage car accidents
Minimum age of 18 to receive an unrestricted basic driver license
All GDL drivers under age 21, who possess a permit or probationary license are required to display two visible red decals
If a student driver commits offense, the offense will be towards BOTH the student & instructor.
You start off with your SPECIAL LEARNER PERMIT
You must be atleast 16 YEAR OLD, PASS THE KNOWLEDGE TEST
You need 6 HOURS with a training school.
Then you must practice with an adult driver for atleast 6 MONTHS.

completed 6 MONTHS OF SUPERVISED DRIVING without any suspensions or postponements
must pass the MVC’S ROAD TEST.

Requirements for Basic Driver License

40/50 — 80%
Road Test
UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE
MINIMUM OF SIX MONTHS OF SUPERVISED DRIVING
OVER 21 YEARS OF AGE
MINIMUM OF THREE MONTHS OF SUPERVISED DRIVING
Test Vehicle Requirements
Valid inspection sticker — Physical well-being of the car
Valid registration document — Electronic connection to the car, knowing who’s car it belongs to
Valid insurance ID card for that vehicle — if there’s an accident, anyone in the car is covered by insurance
Will not have any obstructions or consoles that prevent the examiner from reaching the foot or parking brakes
If you fail, TWO WEEKS you can retake it
Rejection of Road Test Vehicles:
Improper or Expired inspection stickers
Defect or condition that affects safe operation such as
Bad brakes
Unsafe tires
No seat belt
