Weather and Climate

  • Weather: It refers to the condition of the atmosphere of a specific place at a particular point in time.

  • It includes elements such as temperature, rainfall, sunshine, wind, humidity and cloud cover.

  • All these changes occur in the troposphere, the lowest layer of the atmosphere.

  • The weather can vary significantly, sometimes even within a few hours.

  • The weather can be different in nearby places at the same time.

  • Climate: It refers to the average pattern of weather in a region over a long period, usually 30 to 35 years.

  • It helps us understand the general weather conditions expected in a particular area.

  • To determine the climate of a place, daily weather elements are recorded and anaylsed over many years.

  • Every region in the world has its own climate.

  • Unlike weather, climate is steady and does not change day-to-day.
