Adjectives

Japanese adjectives have two categories based on how they end

  • な-adjectives

  • い-adjectives

い-adjectives

  • these adjectives get modified at the end

  • Example: たかい・高い (high or expensive)

な-adjectives

  • easier to use, similar to english

  • the な is placed between the adjective and the noun

    • 田中さんは有名歌手です。

    • Tanaka-san wa yuumei na kashu desu.

    • Tanaka-san is a famous singer.

  • When conjugating な adjective tense you alter the verb linked to it

    • Example: 元気・げんき
