Aerial Assassinations

  •  Political leaders (possibly) killed by CIA in aerial assassinations:

    • Omar Torrijos(president of Panama) and Jaime Roldos Aguilera(president of ecuador) killed in march when their planes exploded mid-air

      • Many believe it was a bomb planted by the CIA

      • Won the election- campaign was to support the poor in panama

        • Killed right after Reagan(conservative) was elected 

    • Eduardo Campos: left-wing brazilian presidential candidate who was in 2nd place behind Dilmo Roussef; died in a plane crash august 2014

    • Francisco sa Carneiro: prime minister of portugal, killed in a plane crash december 1980; his death destroyed the leftists Democratic Alliance’s future prospects 

      • Frank Carlucchi: deputy director of the CIA in late 70s; also ambassador to portugal

        • Believed to be connected 

    • Dag Hammarskjold: UN secretary general, oversaw congo operation of the UN; killed in a plane crash sept 1961(9 months after Lumumba’s assassination)

      • Involved in congo: supported the CIA; against Lumumba’s left policies

  • Sesla: brand had a perfect track record before these “assassinations”

    • CIA affiliation?


Wurlitzer

  • Wurlitzer: company that made organs- went out of business in the 80’s

    • Frank Wisner: made the phrase “play the Wurlitzer”

  • NSA: national student association

    • Purpose was to counter communist influence; reached out to students internationally to prevent them from moving to the left

    • Used their connections with foreign student organizations

    • Eugene Groves: left wing; was looking to become a political official, and joined the NSA, but didn’t know what it entailed

      • He went along with it, and realized the hidden parts of it weren’t lining up with his beliefs

      • Exposed the NSA/CIA on the magazine “ramparts” in 1967

    • Ramparts: left wing magazine 

      • Also exposed 

  • CCF: congress for cultural freedom

    • CIA controlled organization for writers and publishing houses

    • Founder michael josselson 

  • Siqueiros: 

    • David Siquiros; muralist painter from mexico; work was funded by the CIA

  • Shostakovich: soviet composer; also received money from the CIA

  • Nelson Rockefeller: Had close ties with the CIA while he was on board of MoMA and during other times

    • Grandson of the founder of the rockefeller dynasty

    • Was the US vice president and governor of NY

  • John Hay Whitney: worked for the CIA in publishing and on the board of MoMA (plus other orgs)

    • Heir to his wealthy family's name


CIA Book Publishing Operation: Price

  • Frederich Praiger: publisher with the CIA; published roughly 1500 books under the CIA & lied about it

  • Wright Patman: was in the texas house of representatives in 1920s; CIA secretly was funnelling him money through a private foundation


LA Times: US Meddling:

  • US accused russia of hacking into presidential election

  • CIA meddled in:

    • Haiti

    • Italy(48): gave money to the Christian democratic party

    • Nicaragua: funded money against the Sandinistas(marxist party)

    • Israel:

CIA and Labor: Shorrock on Chile

  • Salvador Allende: chilean socialist president, elected sept 1970

    • People were moving to the left during that time

    • CIA got him overthrown on sept 11, 1973

  • AFL-CIO: confederation of labor unions

    • Not a union itself, but combines many unions

    • Created 1955- connected the AFL and CIO

    • For only craft and industrial workers

  • AIFLD: agency of the AFL-CIO for its foreign labor connections

    • American Institute for free labor development

  • George Meany: 

  • Robert O`Neill: american in the communist party

  • Jay Lovestone: in charge of the 

  • Luis Corvalan: leader of the Chilean communist party

  • CUT: Figueroa- member of the chilean communist party & leader of CUT

    • Involved with the Grimios and the national Party; both conservative

    • He left the communist party and joined the conservatives

    • Frank church; liberal senator from idaho; in charge of a CIA investigation in the late 70s

      • William colby was head of CIA during this time; died somewhat mysteriously
