Representation: making present what isnât literally present
Dual Roles of Elections:
Selectionâ ability to choose like minded representatives (constituents)
Accountabilityâ to hold them responsible for their actions
Delegates: representative given instructions set by constituents to act in strict accordance with their interests
Trustees: representative given degree of latitude in decisionsâ trust placed in them by constituents to act in constituencies best interests even if it seems bad at the time
