An example of a surviving piece of art from the time the is the Alfred jewel which is made up of gold and precious stones which form an image of Christ in the centre
Literature
There was a huge variety of literature from the time such as Beowulf poetry, Anglo-Saxon chronicles and the Marvels of the East
The Anglo-Saxon chronicles contain the documented history of Britain from the arrival of Julius Caesar and so are useful to historians
Buildings
Most stone buildings were churches however many people worshipped around a stone cross or in a shelter
Most buildings were made from wood which meant that there was a high risk of fire and they have now rotted away
