1st Corinthians 11

  1. Paul calls them to imitate what he does

  2. Corinth does not remember Paul when they need to nor do they keep some traditions

  3. Order of authority: The head of Christ is God, the head of man is Christ, the head of women is man

    1. Authority does not equal superiority/inferiority

    2. God the Father and Jesus are equal but God is the head of Christ

    3. This is just the order of authority God calls to be respected

    4. Because of this, men praying with a head covering is inappropriate

    5. While women praying without one is inappropriate

      1. A veil showing that one is under authority

      2. Men are both under God’s authority yet in a position of one over women

      3. While women are under both God and men

    6. If a woman refuses to when praying or prophesying, she may as well just shave her head

    7. This is due to the order of creation

      1. God → Man → Woman

      2. God created women for man and not vice versa

      3. Yet still loves and considers us widely equal outside of the authority chain

    8. Every woman is not under the authority of every man

      1. But the head of churches are to be men and women should recognize that

    9. Paul says this should be easy for Corinth to figure out

      1. It is okay to for men to have long hair, but women have done it for way longer and it is considered feminine

      2. Just as some jewish men covered their hair when they prayed, it is a feminine act

      3. Long hair is given as a natural covering for women

    10. Paul tells Corinth not to be contentious in this

    11. Paul calls them out saying that the Corinths come together not for the better but for worse

      1. They have broken off into divisions

      2. Some factions are allowed by God since it shows and separates who really is for God

    12. Even during meals do they act selfishly

      1. Serving themselves before each other and getting drunk

      2. Paul says if you want to act so belligerently, do it at home! Not at church to your brothers and sisters

      3. Such a supper is for remembering Jesus and what he said during the last supper

        1. The communion of taking in his body and blood

      4. So whoever takes this communion in an unworthy way is guilty by the blood and body of Jesus

      5. Examine yourself before taking in the Lord’s body and blood

      6. Those who don’t and do it wrongly open up judgment to themselves

      7. This is why many are asleep or sick in spirituality

      8. So, when eating, wait for each other. If you can’t wait, eat at home. Lest you set judgment to yourself.
