  • Black Caribbean young people are overrepresented in special schools for those with learning difficulties - 1.5 x as likely to be categorised with emotional, behavioural or social difficulties as White British students

  • Black Caribbean school students are more likely to be permanently excluded from schools than White British students of the same sex.

  • Also, more likely to be excluded for longer fixed terms than white students for the same offences

  • Setting/streaming: minority ethnic groups are overrepresented in the lower streams

  • Ethnic minorities are less likely to stay on at the end of compulsory education, are more likely to leave school without qualifications, and are more likely to follow vocational courses
