  • Settlers were not prepared to stay long

  • Jamestown was located in territory controlled by the Powhatan Indians

  • John Rolfe introduced tobacco in Jamestown and made investors lots of money

  • Jamestown became the Virginia colony

  • Indentured servants became a popular labor force

  • African slaves are brought to Jamestown in 1619

  • Virginia farmers form the house of burgesses and makes the first legislation branch

  • Virginia becomes a Royal Colony

  • Rich planters didn’t represent the poor farmers

  • bacons rebellion was a group of poor farmers led by Nathaniel Bacon that blamed Virginias governor for not protection them. this proved to the settlers that slaves should replace indentured servants
