Speed, Distance, and Time Concepts

  1. Calculating Start Time:

    • To find start time: Start time = Finish time − Duration

      • Example: Rafi studied for 1 hour 45 minutes, finished at 21:15.

      • Calculation: 21:15 − 1:45 = 19:30.

  2. Total Distance Calculation:

    • Total Distance = Distance 1 + Distance 2

      • Example: Lila walked 3.2 km + 0.8 km (800 m = 0.8 km) = 4 km.

  3. Time Calculation for Travel:

    • Time = Distance ÷ Speed

      • Example: Bus traveling 180 km at 60 km/h.

      • Calculation: 180 ÷ 60 = 3 hours.

  4. Average Speed:

    • Average Speed = Distance ÷ Time

      • Example: Motorcycle traveled 90 km in 2 hours.

      • Calculation: 90 ÷ 2 = 45 km/h.

  5. Distance Calculation from Speed and Time:

    • Distance = Speed × Time

      • Example: Dito rode at 12 km/h for 0.5 hours.

      • Calculation: 12 × 0.5 = 6 km.

  6. Speed Conversion:

    • To convert m/s to km/h: Multiply by 3.6

      • Example: 5 m/s × 3.6 = 18 km/h.

  7. Total Distance from Multiple Segments:

    • Total Distance = Distance 1 + Distance 2

      • Example: From Ani’s house to the shop (1,000 m) + shop to park (2,000 m) = 3,000 m = 3 km.

  8. Preparation Time Calculation:

    • Start time = Finish time − Preparation time

      • Example: Budi's preparation for sleep at 21:00 for 30 minutes.

      • Calculation: 21:00 − 0:30 = 20:30.

  9. Average Speed for Multiple Segments:

    • Average Speed = Total Distance ÷ Total Time

      • Example: Cyclist at 10 km/h for 1 hour, then 14 km/h for another hour.

      • Calculation: Total Distance = 24 km, Total Time = 2 hours, Average Speed = 24 ÷ 2 = 12 km/h.

  10. Average Speed Based on Travel Distance and Time:

    • Speed = Distance ÷ Time

      • Example: Daniel’s travel from home to market, 60 km in 1 hour.

      • Calculation: 60 ÷ 1 = 60 km/h.
