World Population Growth
There are more than 7.6 billion people living in the world today. The world’s population grows at an uneven rate. When population figures increase and decrease at an uneven rate it is called fluctuation.
The world’s population remained under 1 billion up until 1750. It then began to increase rapidly. At around this time the agricultural and industrial revolutions occurred.
Calculating Population Change
Births are measured using the birth rate.
Deaths are measured using the death rate
Migration is measure using the movement of people in and out of an area.
If more people are born than die in a year, this is called a natural increase. If more people die than are born in a a year this is called a natural decrease.
Because the increase or decrease are measured per 1000, the figure is put over a thousand to get the percentage increase or decrease.
