Office Hours Update
Office hours for this Friday have been adjusted to 6 PM - 7 PM.

Not sitting in an empty Zoom room until 10 PM; needs advanced notice for attendance.
This schedule change is only for this week unless otherwise stated.
Class Schedule and Deadlines
Thursday is important due to several upcoming deadlines and activities:
New class announcements.
SA2 deadline: Due Saturday by midnight.
A reminder to request any extensions two days in advance before the deadline, which is at midnight on Thursday (the 23rd).
Emphasis on adhering to protocol regarding extensions.
Upcoming Class Modules and Texts
Week 10: Start of Mega Module 3.
Introduction of a new book:** A recommendation to obtain the book as it's $12 at Barnes and Noble, emphasizing it’s better than a $300 textbook.
The readings for next week (Thursday) should ideally be completed by then, focusing on Chapter 1. No reading quizzes intended; rather, engaging in critical discussions about the book.
Expectation for reading chapters 1, 2, 4, and 7, while skipping chapters 5 and 6.
Essay Guidelines & Deadlines
Essay 3: Serving as a final essay worth 100 points, not 75.
Similar to Essay 2 - use current events and assigned readings, including JSTOR research.
Reminder of significant dates in the upcoming schedule:
Week 11 and Week 12 planned discussions and lectures.
Week 13: Instructor will be absent for a conference; class will not meet.
Week 14: Thanksgiving break; most students do not attend class, consideration for absences beforehand.
Return after Thanksgiving for important essay submission deadlines.
Final Week available for lectures and closing up before exam sessions, with only two lectures in the last week before final exams.
Extra Credit & Rough Draft Preparation
Rough Draft Day or workshop scheduled for Thursday with a demand for physical hard copies:
Two printed copies of a rough draft must be brought in, stapled together.
Rough draft should be at least 50% complete, suggestively two-and-a-half pages long, not simply one page.
Technology-free day; no laptops or tablets allowed; only paper, pens, and highlighters.
A past incident stressed the importance of not passing electronic devices due to previous misunderstandings.
Discussion on performance and point consideration based on attendance for the rough draft workshop, with a potential for extra credit if attendance meets the threshold.
Extra Credit Opportunities and Assessments
Mention of an extra credit symbolic interpretation quiz:
Students to explain rhetorical symbolism in a controlled manner; clarity on explanations instead of basic definitions is stressed.
A requirement of 250-300 words to receive extra credit at the end of the week.
Clarifications and Student Engagement
Open engagement for questions regarding the essays and materials, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
Encouragement for students to help one another with questions as guidance from fellow students will assist in collective understanding.
Rhetorical Theory and Source Integration
Discussion on rhetorical theory, advising to start with exigence, audience, and constraints to establish understanding in papers.
Questions pertained to memes and their relation to the events, confirming that the event precedes the meme.
Suggested methods of source utilization and importance of incorporating scholarly sources effectively in papers, directing attention to JSTOR as a primary resource.
Conclusion and Closing Remarks
Expected usage of symposium after addressing technical questions, encouraging student interactivity in classroom discussions.
Final recommendations to adhere to upcoming deadlines and be proactive in gathering resources for assignments, tapping into both primary and secondary sources, while seeking clarity in assignments directly from the instructor whenever needed.
Reminder not to underperform during critical deadlines and that final grading periods will consider the cumulative efforts put forth throughout the semester.
