Combustion of hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbons can be used as fuels.
Hydrocarbon fuels release energy when they are combusted (burnt.)
During combustion the carbon and hydrogen atoms in the fuel react with oxygen. The carbon and hydrogen are oxidised. If the oxygen is unlimited, this produces carbon dioxide and water. Scientists call this complete combustion.
