Roles of the President
1. Head of State
• Represents the U.S. at ceremonies.
• Hosts foreign leaders and attends formal events.
2. Head of the Party
• Leader of their political party.
• Shapes party policies, helps party members get elected, raises funds.
3. Economic Planner
• Monitors the economy (inflation, unemployment, interest rates).
• Uses speeches and policies to influence the economy.
4. Commander in Chief
• Civilian leader of the military.
• Can send troops into battle (War Powers Act limits power).
5. Chief Diplomat
• Directs U.S. foreign policy.
• Negotiates treaties and sends/receives ambassadors.
6. Chief Legislator
• Suggests laws to Congress.
• Gives the State of the Union Address and presents the budget.
7. Chief Executive
• Enforces laws and oversees executive branch.
• Can issue executive orders and manage federal agencies.
