CR Plate Reader Components & Functions
Components of CR Plate Reader
Laser
- A red helium-neon laser is utilized in the CR plate reader.
- Its primary function is to scan the imaging plate (IP) to release stored energy embedded within it.
Beam Shaping Optics
- This component ensures that the laser beam maintains a consistent shape and size while scanning the IP.%0A
Mirror
- A mirror in the system changes the direction of the laser beam, guiding it toward the imaging plate (latent image).
Light Emission
- Excited electrons release blue light as they return to their normal energy levels.
- This phenomenon is known as photostimulated luminescence (PSL).
Light Collecting Optics
- This part funnels and collects the emitted light from the imaging plate and directs it toward the photodetector.
Filter
- The filter component plays a crucial role by eliminating noise.
- It removes unwanted light wavelengths that may interfere with image quality.
Photodetector / Photomultiplier Tube (PMT)
- The photodetector, also known as the photomultiplier tube, is responsible for converting the collected light into an electrical signal for the purpose of image processing.
Analog to Digital Converter (ADC)
- This component converts the electrical signal generated by the photodetector into digital data, represented in numerical form.
Erasure
- The imaging plate must undergo an erasure process where it is exposed to bright white light.
- This step serves to remove any residual image from the plate before it can be reused for new imaging purposes.
