Timeline of Architecture Practice in the Philippines

History of Architectural Organizations

  • 1902: Establishment of the Academia de Arquitectura y Agrimensura de Filipinas.

    • 1st President: Guillermo Gardiner

  • 1921: National Assembly enacts the 1st Engineers and Architects Law Act No. 2985, formalizing the registration of master builders as architects.

  • 1933: Formation of the Philippine Architects Society (PAS) which adopted a code of ethics and standardized fees.

  • 1945 (Sept. 2): PAS transitions to the Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA).

  • 1950: Creation of the League of Philippine Architects; implementation of AR 545.
