Goal of Wildlife Management

  • Increase threatened populations.

  • Maintain populations at a sustainable level.

  • Reduce populations which have reached unsustainable levels.

    • Does not reduce populations of species which do not contribute to the environment.

Vulnerable and Endangered Species

  • Vulnerable: Less than 70,000 mature species.

  • Endangered: 2,500.

Carrying Capacity

  • Maximum population a habitat can support.

Nonlethal Methods

  • Reduce reproduction (Fertility control).

  • Behavior modification: Repellents, stimuli, fences.

Lethal Methods

  • Killing population.

  • Pesticides
