Operant Conditioning
Edward Thorndike proposed the Law of Effect.
The Law of Effect is the idea that behavior is learned through either positive or negative consequences.
Positive reinforcement is a bespoke reward for behaviors that we want to repeat.
Primary reinforcement is the basics for survival - food, water, shelter.
Secondary reinforcement is something that is not needed but wanted.
Negative reinforcement is taking away an undesired something.
Punishment can be positive or negative reinforcement.
Generalization is when similar stimuli cause the same response.
Discrimination is when the differences between two similar stimuli are acknowledged.
Extinction is when a conditioned response is no longer reinforced and therefore fails to be elicited by the stimuli that once triggered it.
Shaping is when reinforcement is applied gradually while working towards a large goal.
Chaining is when pieces of a sequence/larger whole are reinforced.
