Relative Frequency and Percent Frequency Distribution

Relative Frequency Calculations

  • Relative frequency represents the proportion of total observations belonging to a specific category, derived from Table 2.4 (also referenced as Table 2).
  • Coca-Cola Relative Frequency:
    • Expression and calculation:     1950=0.38\frac{19}{50} = 0.38
  • Diet Coke Relative Frequency:
    • Expression and calculation:     850=0.16\frac{8}{50} = 0.16

Percent Frequency Distribution and Aggregate Analysis

  • Percent frequency converts relative frequency values into percentage representation:
    • Coca-Cola accounts for 38%38\% of total purchases.
    • Diet Coke accounts for 16%16\% of total purchases.
  • Aggregate Market Share of Top Three Soft Drinks:
    • The combined percent frequency for the top three soft drinks is computed by summing their individual percentages:     38%+26%+16%=80%38\% + 26\% + 16\% = 80\%
    • The top three soft drinks collectively account for 80%80\% of all soft drink purchases.
