Definition of Calorie
- Definition: A calorie is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1°C.
- Kilocalories in Nutrition: In nutritional contexts, we refer to kilocalories (kcal) where one dietary “Calorie” (with a capital C) is equivalent to 1 kilocalorie (kcal) = 1,000 small calories.
