The Exposures
Abilities and limitations
The ability to feel and see what another person feels.
a deep, nauseating awareness of what they're feeling; an emotion so strong that it becomes his own; their physical condition; their current mental state; a memory they're actively carrying; or the full experience of something they've done.
The ability requires physical contact. Skin-to-skin contact is the most reliable trigger, though very thin or loose clothing can occasionally allow it to occur. Thick or bulky clothing has, so far, prevented it. There is no completely reliable thickness at which contact becomes safe.
He has had the ability for years and knows its general patterns, but he cannot control what manifestation he receives or how severe it will be.
Separated into three(main) groups:
emotional/mental
physical
reliving
Emotional/mental
He can become deeply aware of another person's current emotional state. This can range from simply knowing what they are feeling to an emotion becoming so overwhelming that he experiences it as his own.
The stronger and more consuming the emotion is for the other person, the more severe it tends to be for him.
He may experience grief, fear, panic, anger, guilt, joy, or any other intense emotional state. He doesn't merely understand the emotion intellectually; he is forced to experience it himself.
A person's current mental state can also be transferred to him. This is particularly pronounced with children. The younger the child, the more difficult it is for him to maintain his own adult perspective during the experience. He can temporarily think and react with the mental state of the child rather than simply understanding what the child is thinking.
The mental state can outlast an individual memory associated with it.
Physical
He can experience another person's physical condition as though it were happening to his own body.
This includes illness, injury, pain, exhaustion, nausea, pregnancy, menstruation, and any other physical sensations or conditions.
His body can physically respond to what he experiences. He can become nauseated, gag, become weak, sweat, have difficulty moving normally, or experience physical sensations that have no corresponding physical cause in his own body.
When the experience involves anatomy that is relevant to the condition, his perception can change accordingly. He may experience a body as having different anatomy from his own, despite his actual body remaining unchanged. On rare occasions, the experience can become visually perceptible to him as well. Though only visual, to him there is no change in his anatomy if he were to feel his anatomy.
The severity of the condition affects the duration. A relatively minor injury may last only minutes, while an extremely intense physical condition can remain with him for up to approximately ninety minutes.(the longest it’s gone for him(personally)has so far been ninety minutes)
Physical experiences are among the most dangerous manifestations because he experiences them significantly more intensely than the person he touched.
Reliving
He can experience a memory currently being carried by another person.
These are not objective recordings of what happened. They are the person's memory of what happened, including their perception and interpretation. The memory may therefore be incomplete, distorted, mistaken, or otherwise different from objective reality.
When a reliving occurs, he does not watch the memory from an outside perspective.
He becomes the person.
For approximately ten seconds, he cannot distinguish the experience from his own reality.(ten seconds from an outside perspective, he relives the entire memory). If the person remembers killing someone, he experiences himself as having killed them. If they remember losing someone, he experiences the loss as his own.
He is not able to consciously think, “This is someone else's memory” while it is happening.
Once the reliving ends, the distinction immediately returns. He knows that the event did not actually happen to him, even though the emotional and psychological consequences of having experienced it can remain.
Children are an exception, usually prepubescent or mid-puberty never post-puberty. Their memories generally follow the same brief duration, but their mental state can remain with him longer than the memory itself.
Indirect contact
Very rarely, the ability can activate through an object.
He must touch an object within approximately one or two seconds of the previous person releasing it. The effect is always connected to the last person who handled the object.
Unlike direct contact, indirect contact is usually extremely brief—approximately two seconds and generally produces only a flash of the person's current emotional state.
It is unpredictable and cannot be deliberately relied upon as a source of information.
It is also not psychometry. it does not work for the owner of an object but rather the person who touched the object last.
Duration
There is no single fixed duration for the ability.
The entire range can be anywhere from approximately two seconds to ninety minutes, depending on the manifestation.
Object-based emotional flashes are generally around two seconds.
Relived memories are generally around ten seconds but can feel longer for him.
Physical and more sustained emotional or mental experiences can last considerably longer, with severe physical conditions reaching approximately ninety minutes.
Intensity, rather than a fixed timer, determines duration.
Contact and amplification
Contact with another person can temporarily affect the other person's experience.
While he remains in physical contact with them, he can take certain feelings, emotions, memories, or subjective physical sensations away from them. The physical condition itself is not actually removed or changed; only the person's perception of it is temporarily transferred to him.
The longer he maintains contact, the longer he can continue carrying that experience for them.
However, he experiences what he takes from them at approximately twice the intensity.
When contact ends, whatever he has taken from the person is returned to the person at the original intensity. When contact ends for him it amplifies at approximately three times the intensity(from the original intensity)
This makes prolonged contact particularly dangerous.
He therefore does not generally use his ability to help people. The potential benefit to the other person is almost never worth what it does to him. His instinct is to break contact as quickly as possible.
Loss of control
He cannot choose what he receives once the ability activates.
He can recognize patterns because he has lived with it for years, but he cannot reliably determine whether contact will produce an emotional state, physical condition, mental state, memory, or full reliving experience.
He also cannot determine exactly how long an exposure will last.
Because of this unpredictability, he has developed an extreme aversion to physical contact.
He does not shake hands, avoids unnecessary touching, maintains physical distance from people, avoids crowded situations when possible, and generally refuses situations such as undercover work that require prolonged physical proximity.
His stillness immediately following accidental contact does not necessarily mean the ability has activated. He freezes because he is waiting to find out whether it will.
Children
Children are particularly difficult for him.
The younger the child, the harder it is for him to maintain his own mental state during an experience. Their emotional and cognitive state can become his own, sometimes lingering after a memory or other manifestation has ended.
Physical illness or distress in a child can therefore be especially dangerous for him.
He generally avoids touching children for the same reason he avoids touching anyone else, despite being capable of making exceptions when circumstances become extreme.
Biological Children
His own (BIO!!)children are the sole known exception.
He could maintain skin-to-skin contact with his children for hours without triggering the ability. He could hold their hand, carry them, or otherwise touch them without experiencing anything from her.
The actual reason is genetic: His children share his DNA, and that genetic similarity prevented the ability from activating between them.
Because of the DNA factor it HAS to be biological children. They have to come from either an ability-holder’s own sperm or egg. It had to come from your balls or your uterus. It does not have to be grown in the body of a woman with abilities. You can do fuck else with the fertilized egg/zygote.
Knowledge of the ability
He has always known that what happens to him is real.
He does not consider it a conventional "psychic gift," and he does not present himself as a psychic. In fact, he actively rejects the idea of psychic abilities and has spent years insisting that psychics are fraudulent.
His own ability is one of the reasons that contradiction has become increasingly complicated for him, particularly in his interactions with people who claim to be psychic.
The ability does not make him omniscient. It does not give him objective access to another person's mind or memories, and it cannot reliably provide factual information. It gives him the other person's experience, which is not necessarily the same thing as reality.
And he would much rather not experience it at all as it tends to be harmful to himself.
