Overview of Project Assignments and Deadlines
Description of project workflow and timelines for various deliverables.
Part One is due the following week on Monday.
Final submission is due next week on Friday.
Ongoing work will be concentrated on these two weeks.
Group Assignments and Roles
Explanation of group formation and individual roles within the project.
Group Assignments:
Group 1: Jenny, Adam, Matthew, Tirun
Group 2: Ralph, Maeve, Rayann
Group 3: Ramsey, Otto, Yolanda, Cole
Group 4: Nate, Lucy, Edward
Individual Roles:
Storyboard Artist: Responsible for sketching the storyboard.
Molecule Designer: Creates and/or assembles models (using Play Doh or other materials) to represent molecules.
Animator: Needs to be technically adept, responsible for taking pictures and managing animations.
Narrator: Provides a voiceover and edits the film.
Groups with three members may need to share roles.
Project Guidelines and Creativity
Emphasis on creativity and effective communication of the material.
Encouragement to explore creativity, including the addition of music and voiceovers in presentations.
Examples Provided:
Previous year’s project noted as a good example (caution against recording sideways).
Example characteristics:
Length: 40 seconds
Use of 10 pictures per second.
Overall creativity is encouraged: "You can talk over it, you can be as creative as you want."
Core Concept: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Connection highlighted: Processes interlink, where outputs of one become the inputs for the other, illustrating a cyclical relationship.
Storyboarding and Scene Design
Discussing the storyboard process and sketching requirements.
Each group is to develop a rough draft and approach this with brainstorming and teamwork.
Major steps to discuss are listed in the assignment for Part One:
Identify where reactions occur in the chloroplast (e.g., light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid membranes, light-independent reactions in the stroma).
Define starting molecules involved.
Create basic sketches on storyboard sheets (guidance provided for paper availability).
Emphasis on the labeling of scenes:
Example of Scene Labels:
Sun shining
Sun rays hitting the chloroplast.
Material Suggestions for Creativity
Recommended materials for construction and design of models:
Play Doh, clay, colored beads, Lego blocks, mini marshmallows, toothpicks, candy, pipe cleaners, buttons, bottle caps, small items, paper cutouts, and construction paper shapes.
Responsibilities Clarification
Distinction among roles clarified:
Animator: Has the vision and oversees movements.
Editor: Responsible for capturing images and compiling them into the final film.
Molecule Designer: Engages in the creative process of object selection and design based on storyboard requirements.
Usage of Technology
Discussion regarding the use of technology in the project.
Query regarding tech tools, with emphasis on student autonomy in selecting apps for animation and editing.
Assignment Tracking and Clarity
Encouragement to track assignments through the Canvas platform (instructor indicates checking the grade book).
Active Points: The current project is worth 50 points.
Clarification sought by students regarding assignments and grading, ensuring everyone understands their standing.
Closing Notes and Next Steps
Students encouraged to make significant progress in their projects during the class.
Instruction to complete rough drafts and storyboard sketches for next class meeting.
Reminder of the timeline and expected deliverables.
Inquiry regarding starting designs and constructive use of class time to advance the project.
