David's refusal to kill saul

  1. The Ziphites revealed to Saul that David was hiding in the wilderness
of Hachilah. So, Saul came to the wilderness of Ziph with 3,000 men
    to seek David.

  2. David’s spies noticed this and reported Saul’s position to him. When
David went to find out, he saw Saul and his troops arranged
    themselves in the camp.

  3. That night, Abishai went with David to Saul’s camp, he asked David
    for permission to kill Saul.

  4. David restrained Abishai because Saul was the Lords’ anointed. He
said God would kill Saul in a battle when the time comes.

  5. David took away Saul’s spear and his jar of water nobody was aware
of David and Abishai’s presence because God made the people in
Saul’s camp to fall into a deep sleep.

  6. David and Abishai left the camp quietly, when they got to a safe
    distance David shouted Abner’s name.

  7. David told Abner that he deserved to die for being so careless in
watching over King Saul, he asked Abner where King Saul’s spear
    and jar of water were.

  8. Saul recognized David’s voice. David asked Saul what he had done
wrong that was making Saul to pursue him.

  9. David offered to make restitution to God if he was the one that inspired Saul to pursue him but if it was an act of men that caused this, may such men be cursed by God. Saul regretted his action and promised not to harm David again because David had spared his life.

    1. David asked someone to collect his spear and jar of water. He
prayed that his life will be special in God’s sight just as the King’s life

was precious in his sight. Saul blessed David and returned to his palace, while David went his way.
