TYPES OF INFORMATION SOURCES

  • Primary Sources: Original materials; firsthand accounts.

    • Examples: Artifacts, diaries, letters, manuscripts, music, official documents, emails, journals, artworks, patents, audio/video recordings.

  • Secondary Sources: Analysis or interpretation of primary sources.

    • Examples: Newspaper articles, literature reviews, textbooks, biographies.

  • Tertiary Sources: Collections and summaries of primary and secondary sources.

    • Examples: Encyclopedias, dictionaries, guidebooks, manuals, directories, yearbooks.

FINDING INFORMATION SOURCES

  • Indigenous Knowledge: Unique cultural knowledge from indigenous peoples.

  • Indigenous Media: Media produced by indigenous groups for cultural preservation and expression.

    • Examples: Folktales, folk songs, folk dances.

  • Library: A resource for accessing various information and imagination works.

  • Internet: A global computer network sharing information globally.

EVALUATING INFORMATION AND MEDIA

  1. Source Evaluation: Who or what is the source? Validity, accuracy, reliability.

  2. Medium Used: Which medium disseminates the information?

  3. Purpose: Is it to inform, persuade, educate, influence, or propaganda?

  4. Creation Method: How was the information made?

  5. Value: Is the information valuable to the audience?
