Fitness & Fitness Testing:

5 Components of Fitness:

  • Cardiovascular Fitness: How well the heart and lungs function together

  • Flexibility: Range of motion around a joint

  • Muscular Strength: Maximum effort for 1 rep

  • Muscular Endurance: Repeated muscle contractions over a period of time

  • Body Composition: Ratio of lean muscle to fat in the body

Fitness Testing:

  • The P.A.C.E.R test assesses what component of fitness?

    • The P.A.C.E.R test assesses cardiovascular endurance, measuring the ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the muscles during prolonged physical activity.

Benefits of Exercise:

  • Physical Benefits: Lowers excess body fat, reduce chance of injury

  • Mental Health benefits: Helps relieve stress, mood enchancer

Stretching Types:

  • Static

    • Static stretching is done standing still

  • Dynamic

    • Dynamic stretching is stretching in motion

Heart Rates (HR):

  • How/where are they taken?

    • Heart rates can be taken on the carotid artery of the neck or radial artery of the wrist

  • What do they measure?

    • Heart rate measures number of times your heart beats in 1 minute

Nutrition:

  • Essential nutrients: Water, fats, protein, vitamins and minerals, fiber and carbohydrates

Freshman PE Activities (General rules and scoring):

  • 4-Square:

    • The inside line are considered in play

    • Everyone in line and playing are the officials

    • Any call that is questionable should be replayed

  • Knockout:

    • If the player behind you makes a basket before you, you are out

  • Spikeball:

    • Spiking skills

    • Passing skills

  • Cornhole:

    • 1 point is awarded if for a bag on the board

    • 3 points are awarded for a bag in the hole

    • Conacel scoring is used

    • The winner is the first to 21 or over

  • Volleyball:

    • Players are never allowed to touch the net

    • 3 hits per side bump set and spike the bump pass is used to control the ball and pass to a teammate
