Genetic Variation
What factors would have to exist for a species to be able to change?
Evolution by natural selection
Genetic variation which is often due to a chance mutation.
Competition; for food, mates, territory, to avoid predation.
‘Survival of the fittest’ the organism that is best adapted to its environment is more likely to survive
More likely to reproduce
More likely to pass on the advantageous alleles to the offspring.
Leading to change in the species over time to have advantageous characteristics/traits- evolution.
