Sexual Disorders

Male Hypoactive Sexual desire disorder - persistent or recurrently deficient sexual or erotic thoughts, fantasies, and desire for sexual activity. (These symptoms must have persisted for a minimum of six months, and they must cause clinically significant distress.)

Female sexual interest arousal disorder - lack of sexual interest and willingness to be sexual

Erectile disorder- difficulty getting and keeping an erection (half of men between the ages of 40 and 70 experience)

Female orgasmic disorder - characterized by a persistent or recurrent delay in or absence of orgasm following sexual arousal and adequate sexual stimulation. (To diagnose, the symptoms must cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty)

Delayed Ejaculation- a condition in which it takes an extended period of sexual stimulation for men to reach sexual climax and release semen from the penis (ejaculate).

Premature Ejaculation Disorder- occurs in men when semen leave the body (ejaculate) sooner than wanted during sex. Premature ejaculation is a common sexual complaint. As many as 1 out of 3 people say they have it at some time.

Genito pelvic pain/penetration disorder - pain during sexual intercourse or other sexual activity that involves penetration and involuntary contraction of muscles around the opening of the vagina

Exhibitionistic disorder- diagnosed in a person with recurrent, intense urges, fantasies, or behaviors that involve exposing his/her genitals to others (usually strangers) in inappropriate circumstances and without their consent. Exhibitionistic Disorder typically develops during adolescence. Antisocial history, alcohol or other substance misuse and pedophilic sexual preference may increase the risk of developing Exhibitionistic Disorder, although causality has not been determined.

Fetishistic disorder -characterized by a distressing and persistent pattern of sexual arousal involving the use of nonliving objects or specific, nongenital body parts.

Frotteuristic disorder, or frotteurism - is a rare and poorly researched type of paraphilia. It involves the act of touching or rubbing one's genitals against another non-consenting individual in a sexual manner, to attain sexual gratification

Pedophilic disorder - recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving prepubescent or young adolescents (usually ≤ 13 years); it is diagnosed only when people are ≥ 16 years and ≥ 5 years older than the child who is the target of the fantasies or behaviors

Sexual masochism/sexual sadism- deriving sexual pleasure from inflicting pain on another person and masochism as obtaining sexual pleasure from receiving pain and cruelty inflicted by another person.

Transvestic disorder- experiencing recurrent and intense sexual arousal, urges, and behavior from wearing clothes traditionally worn by a different gender. It is not a mental disorder. Instead, transvestic disorder falls under the umbrella term of paraphilia, any atypical sexual thoughts or erotic behavior.

Voyeuristic disorder- involves becoming sexually aroused by watching an unsuspecting person who is disrobing, naked, or engaged in sexual activity. The behavior should be present for 6 months, and the individual must be at least 18 years of age. \n

Gender dysphoria in children- have experienced significant distress for at least six months and at least six of the following: strong desire to be of the other gender or an insistence that they are the other gender. strong preference for wearing clothes typical of the opposite gender.

Gender dysphoria in adults - a sense of unease that a person may have because of a mismatch between their biological sex and their gender identity. This sense of unease or dissatisfaction may be so intense it can lead to depression and anxiety and have a harmful impact on daily life

Paraphilic disorders - 80% men and typically begins in adolescence

Pedophiles are often married with children

Sex offender registration- under 18: either registered for 10 years or until 21 years old

adult over 18: registered for 15 years

There are 4 levels of sex offenders (4 being most intense/often predators)

Masters & Johnson 1960s - pioneered research into the understanding human sexual response, dysfunction, and disorders through the direct observation of anatomical and physiological sexual responses of human subjects.

The Kinsey Reports are two scholarly books on human sexual behavior, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953)
