Types of Tissues
Animal Tissues
- A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function working together.
- Muscular Tissue:
- Function: Contracts to bring about movement.
- Glandular Tissue:
- Function: Contains secretory cells.
- Action: Produces and secretes substances such as enzymes and hormones.
- Epithelial Tissue:
- Function: Covers the outside of the body and internal organs.
Plant Tissues
- Epidermal Tissues:
- Function: Cover plant surfaces and protect them.
- Polysate Mesophyll:
- Contains lots of chloroplasts.
- Function: Carries out photosynthesis.
- Spongy Mesophyll:
- Contains some chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
- Has big air spaces and large surface area.
- Function: Facilitates the diffusion of gases.
- Xylem and Phloem:
- Transport tissues in plants.
- Xylem: Carries water and dissolved minerals from the roots up to the plant.
- Phloem: Transports dissolved food from the leaves around the plant.
