ESSAY tips

  1. Introduction

    • Provides context and background information on the work being analysed (“avtor, opis + problem“)

    • Multipart thesis statement (must not be a question, states the central idea of the essay; try to relate to the whole book and not only a part of it)

  2. Body Paragraphs

    • Topic sentence/mini thesis (one segment of the thesis)

    • Point or argument supporting the thesis

    • Evidence: quotation, details, character’s viewpoint

    • Analyse the evidence: discuss its significance and how it relates to the thesis (how it proves point)

    • *repeat points 2-4 twice until you have the full paragraph*

    • put a 1 sentence summary + restatement of all of the points at the end (relate back to the thesis statement)

  3. Conclusion

    • Shorten and restate the thesis

    • Rewrite and shorten the last sentence of each paragraph and put it here

    • simplified problem statement (same as the first sentence)
