Roosevelt and the New Deal 1

In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt inspired confidence with his New Deal program, stating, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. ” The New Deal introduced social and economic reforms that were already known in Europe, marking a shift away from “laissez-faire” capitalism. Although it did not restore prosperity, it helped many Americans and increased interest in government.
