Peace and Justice – Summary

Peace:

• Means the absence of war and a feeling of happiness.

• Christians and Muslims both value peace as a goal for individuals and nations.

Justice:

• Means doing what’s right or fair and making up for wrongs.

• Linked with equality — if people don’t have equal opportunities, it’s seen as unjust.

Christianity:

• Prophet Isaiah spoke of a time of peace — “Nation will not take sword upon nation” (Isaiah 2:4).

• Christians aim to make peace and believe God, the ultimate judge, will bring justice and settle disputes.

Islam:

• Islam in Arabic means peace.

• The Qur’an teaches peace is essential:
  “The servants of the Lord of Mercy… walk humbly on earth, and when aggressive people address them, reply with words of peace.” (Qur’an 25:63)
