Significant Figure (Sig Fig) Rules
Significant figures are the numbers in a measurement that indicate the level of precision of that measurement. the more significant figures a measurement has, the more precise it is.
**Rule of thumb: round your final answer in a problem to the least precise value given in the problem**
1. The College board tests your knowledge of significant figures on one question, usually part of an FRQ. When in doubt, round to 3 significant figures.
2. Exact relationships (ex. 60 sec = 1 min) are not considered when determining the number of sig figs in an answer because they are not measurements subject to error.
