REDEMPTION- A Christmas Carol

• scrooges redemption is the main focus of the whole text as he gives up his mean and miserly ways, and makes up for all the bad things that he has done

at the beginning of of the play it seems impossible that scrooge will change as in Chapter One he is negatively portrayed as a misanthropist disliking people. However, he does change.

• scrooge was not forced to change, however he does which means deep down he has always had redeeming qualities he just needed the spiritual awakening to be reminded of them

THE SPIRITS

• the spirits initiate scrooges redemption and are sent to help him. they merely show him visions and it is scrooge who must take the meaning from these visions and use them to change.

• he is transformed by learning the value of empathy

he feels pity for his lonely, boyhood self and regrets his treatment to others

he remembers the fun he had as Fezziwig apprentice and empathises with his own, Bob
