- Objective Knowledge:

- Objective does not mean "true"; objective means testable, criticizable, and publicly accessible.
- Cathedral Analogy: Objective knowledge functions like a physical structure (such as Notre Dame in Paris)—a public artifact standing outside the individual, subject to inspection, evaluation, or refutation.
- Based on Conjectures and Refutations, Popper defines seven fundamental rules regarding scientific validity:
- Confirmations or verifications are easy to obtain for almost any theory if one actively searches for confirming data.
- Confirmations count only if they result from risky predictions—outcomes that, under the theoretical assumption, could easily disprove the hypothesis.
- Every good scientific theory is a prohibition: it explicitly forbids specific events or outcomes from occurring. The more a theory forbids, the better it is.
- A theory that is not refutable by any conceivable event is unscientific. Irrefutability is a defect, not a virtue.
- Genuine testing of a theory is an explicit attempt to refute or falsify it. Testability is falsifiability.
- Corroborating evidence ("so far, so good") counts only when it is the outcome of a genuine, unsuccessful attempt to falsify the theory.
- Some genuinely testable theories, after being falsified, continue to be upheld by proponents through ad hoc auxiliary assumptions or reinterpretations (the "conventionalist twist"), which destroys the theory's scientific standing.
