Cattle Industry & Frontier Life

  • The cattle industry boom occurred right after the civil war.

  • To move livestock to markets, ranches would use cattle trails. The helped the industry grow.

  • The cattle boom was a part of connecting Texas to outside regions while also helping to boost the economy.

  • To end the open range, ranchers put up barbed wire which also led to the decline of long cattle drives.

  • Groups like ‘Cowboys’ and ‘ buffalo soldiers’ , and they protected settlers and maintained order.
