March 1954	Battle of Diem Bien Phu pushes French from Vietnam. Geneva agreement splits Vietnam into NV and SV
October 1955	Non-Communist Ngo Dinh Diem becomes President of SV (rigged) US sends military advisors to support him.
1957	Viet Minh start a campaign of guerrilla warfare in SV
1960	National Liberation Front formed in Hanoi (SV) US aid to Diem increases	NLB = Viet Cong
