The Patriarchs
These are the early ancestors of the Israelites.
They are the founders of Israel as a nation.
==1. Abraham==
Abraham was the son of Terah from Ur in Babylon (Genesis 11:27-28).
His brothers were Nahor and Haran.
His name was changed from Abram to Abraham (Genesis 19:5).
God was to make him the father of many nations.
Abraham is also known as:
the father of faith or believers.
a friend of God (James 2:23).
the founder of the Jewish race.
God called Abraham from Haran.
abraham was 75 years old (Genesis 12:4).
God promised to bless all the nations through Abraham (Genesis 12:2).
God left for the Promised Land (Canaan) with his nephew Lot
Later, Abraham and Lot separated to prevent quarrels over grazing land (Genesis 13:5-9).

He would have many descendants as the stars in the sky (Genesis 12:15). God would bless him and make him famous (Genesis 12:3).
His descendants would become a great nation (Genesis 17:6).
God would bless those who would bless him and curse those who would condemn him.
He would be given a great reward and shielded from danger.
His descendants would be era but God would free them and punish the nation that enslave them (Genesis 15:13 -14).
The land of Canaan would belong to him and his descendants.
He would live to a ripe old age and die in peace (Genesis 15:15)
Some of his descendants would be kings.
Yahweh would be his God and God of his descendants (Genesis 17:7)
He and Sarah would have a son (Genesis 17:16).
His son Ishmael would have m descendants and become a father of twelve princes (Genesis 17:7)
He also brought a dove and a pigeon.
God sealed it by smoking fire pot and a flaming torch
(Genesis 15:17)
Abraham had two sons namely:
Isaac, whose name means laughter. His mother was Sarah (Genesis 17:19)
Ishmael means God hears. Ishmael was the son of Hagar who was Abraham's slave girl (Genesis 16:11)
After the death of Sarah. Abraham married Keturah.
Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son at Mount Moriah.
It means the Lord provides(Genesis 22:14)
Abraham died at the age of 175 years and was buried at Machpelah cave
(Genesis 25:7-8)
2. Isaac
He was the promised son of Abraham.
Isaac’s wife was Rebecca, daughter of Bethuel (Genesis 24:69)
Isaac had two sons namely:
Esau means hairy (Genesis 25:25)
Jacob which means heel (Genesis 25:26)
Esau gave Jacob his firstborn rights in exchange for soup and bread
(Genes 25:13-14)
Jacob had a dream at Bethel
He named it, "house of God" (Genesis 25:19)
At Peniel, Jacob wrestled with an angel
Jacob wanted to be blessed by the angel (Genesis 12:24-26) Peniel means the face of God.
Jacob was given the name Israel (Genesis 32:28)
Jacob's sons were the founders of the twelve tribes of Israel.
His wives were Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Laban.
He demonstrated patience and tolerance
He worked for 14 years to marry Rachel
3. joseph
He was the most beloved son of Jacob
He was Rachel's son.
Born to Jacob at his old age (Genesis 37:3)
He reported the brothers to his father
His brothers hated him for being the most beloved son (Genesis 37:4)
He dreamt of becoming a king over them ( Genesis 37:10)
They became jealous of him
They planned to kill him but Reuben intervened.
Later, they sold him for 20 pieces of silver to the Ishmaelite traders (Genesis 37:28)
He was sold to Potiphar in Egypt
In Potiphar's house, he overcomes the temptation of committing adultery
He was able to do it because of his faith and trust in God
He was accused falsely and thrown into prison
In prison, he interpreted the king's dream
He was appointed a governor because of the wisdom and insight that he had
been given by God (Genesis 41:37-41)

Prophets and prophecies
1. Isaiah the prophet of hope
During his call, he gave the excuse of being a sinful man and living among
evil people (Isaiah 6:5).
Prophecies
Birth of Jesus by a virgin (Isaiah 7:11).
The ministry of John the Baptist (Isaiah 40:3)
The ministry of Jesus (Isaiah 61: 1-2).
The sufferings of Jesus (Isaiah 53).
He described Jesus as
(i)Immanuel
(ii) Wonderful counselor
(iii) Mighty God
(iv) Eternal father
(v) Prince of peace
(vi) The suffering servant
2. Jeremiah
He is the lamenting or weeping prophet
Prophecies
The killing of baby boys ( Jeremiah 31:15)
The new covenant of love( Jeremiah 31: 28-34)
Jerusalem's fall and the Israelites' exile in Babylon (Jeremiah: 15-19).
3. Zechariah's prophecies
The triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (Zechariah 11: 10)
The thirty silver coins for the betrayal of Jesus Zechariah 11:10)
The piercing of Jesus’ side (Zechariah 12: 10)
The arrest of Jesus and the scattering of the disciples (Zechariah 13.7)
4. Ezekiel (watchman for Israel) (Ezekiel 37: 1-4)
The valley of dry bones (Ezekiel 37: 1-4)
The unification of Judah and Israel (Ezekiel 37 15-22)
The streams of life-giving water (Ezekiel 47:1).
Restoration of Israel (Ezekiel 39:29)
5. Micah
The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem (Micah 5: 2)
6 Hosea
He is the prophet of love.
He foretold the escape of Mary Joseph with baby Jesus to Egypt (Hosea 11:1)
7. Joel
The coming of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28).
The second coming of Jesus (Joel 2:31)
8. Ahijch
God would take away the kingdom from Solomon and give it to Jeroboam
(1 Kings 11 29-32)
9 Agabus
He predicted a severe over all the earth (Acts 11:28)
Kingship in Israel
When Samuel was still a judge the Israelites asked for a king(1 Samuel 8: 19-20)
They wanted to be like other nations
They also wanted a king who would lead them to war
They wanted a king who would rule them with justice unlike Joel and Abijah
