  • Restriction of energy intake leading to significantly low body weight.

  • Intense fear of gaining weight and persistent behavior interfering with weight gain.

  • Undue influence of body weight on self-evaluation; lack of recognition of seriousness.

    • Restricting type.

    • Binge-eating/purging type.

Personality Disorder

  • Enduring pattern deviating from cultural norms, pervasive, inflexible, onset in adolescence/early adulthood, stable over time, leads to distress/impairment.

Eating Disorders

  • Anorexia Nervosa

  • Binge Eating Disorder

Substance-Related Disorders

  • Includes disorders related to alcohol, caffeine, cannabis, hallucinogens, inhalants, opioids, sedatives, stimulants, and tobacco.

Adjustment Disorder

  • Emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor within 3 months of onset.

  • Marked distress disproportionate to the stressor, considering context and cultural factors.

Substance Use Disorder Criteria

  • Impaired control, craving, tolerance, withdrawal, and social impairment.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Exposure to actual or threatened traumatic event.

  • Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech/behavior, negative symptoms, impaired functioning.

Binge-Eating Disorder

  • Recurrent episodes with lack of control, eating more rapidly than normal, until uncomfortably full, large amounts when not hungry.

  • Occurs at least once a week for 3 months.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Obsessions: Recurrent, intrusive, unwanted thoughts/urges/images causing anxiety/distress; attempts to neutralize them.

  • Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors/mental acts the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession to reduce anxiety.

Bipolar Disorder

  • Presence of at least one manic or hypomanic episode.

Major Depressive Episode

  • Five or more symptoms for a 2-week period: depressed mood, diminished interest/pleasure, weight/appetite changes, insomnia/hypersomnia, psychomotor agitation/retardation, fatigue, worthlessness/guilt, impaired cognition, recurrent thoughts of death.

Manic Episode

  • Abnormally elevated mood/increased activity for at least 1 week: inflated self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, talkativeness, flight of ideas, distractibility, increased goal-directed activity, excessive involvement in pleasurable activities.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • Excessive, uncontrollable worry with restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, sleep disturbance.

  • Most common mental disorders - affecting 4% of the global population.

Separation Anxiety Disorder

  • Developmentally inappropriate fear/anxiety concerning separation; worry about losing attachment figures or harm to them; reluctance to go out; nightmares; physical symptoms.

Panic Disorder

  • Recurrent unexpected panic attacks with intense fear/discomfort reaching peak within minutes; worry about additional attacks; maladaptive behavior change.

Social Anxiety Disorder

  • Anxiety about situations with possible scrutiny, fear of negative evaluation; situations provoke fear/anxiety, which are out of proportion to the actual threat.

Symptoms of Panic Attacks

  • Palpitations, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, choking, chest pain, nausea, dizziness, chills/heat sensations, derealization, fear of losing control or dying.

Conduct Disorder

  • Repetitive behavior violating rights of others or societal norms.

  • Manifested by aggression to people/animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness/theft, serious rule violations.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Inattention: Fails to give close attention, difficulty sustaining attention, doesn't listen, doesn't follow through, difficulty organizing, avoids tasks needing mental effort, loses things, easily distracted, forgetful.

  • Hyperactivity/Impulsivity: Fidgets, leaves seat, runs/climbs excessively, difficulty playing quietly, "on the go", talks excessively, blurts out answers, difficulty awaiting turn, interrupts/intrudes.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Persistent deficits in social communication/interaction across multiple contexts; restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior/interests/activities.

  • Deficits in social-emotional reciprocity, nonverbal communication, developing/maintaining relationships.

  • Stereotyped motor movements/speech; insistence on sameness; fixated interests; hyper/hypo-reactivity to sensory input.
