Air Pressure

Air has mass and takes up space.

Air in the atmosphere pushes down on Earth’s surface.

Air pressure decreases as altitude increases.

Air pressure is greatest at sea level.

Higher pressure air ALWAYS moves to areas with lower pressure air.

Differences in air pressure are caused by differences in temperature which are caused by the uneven heating of Earth’s surface.

The movement of higher pressured air to lower pressure air is called wind.

The greater the pressure difference, the stronger the wind will be.
