A Midsummer Nights Dream Act III

1. How are the actors going to keep from scaring the ladies when Pyramus kills himself or when the lion roars?

The actors are going to keep from scaring the ladies when Pyramus kills himself by having a prologue to tell them that he’s not actually killing himself and he is actually Nick Bottom the weaver. As well for the lion having a prologue to tell the audience that the lion isn't a real lion.

2. How are the actors going to manage the setting/scenery such as the moonlight and the wall?

They are going to get people to act the wall and moonlight (Moonlight only if none is present the night of, otherwise they will open a window.) → If the moonlight isn't present that night someone will act moonlight by holding a lantern.

3. Why do the rest of the actors run off when Bottom reappears?

Because his face is enchanted and is now an ass or head of a donkey. The actors are scared of him and think it’s a monster.

4. What does Puck plan to do when he follows after the other actors?

Puck plans to create mischief and to amuse himself after following the other actors. → play tricks on them.

5. How does Bottom react to Titania and the other fairies?

At first Bottom is a bit flustered and surprised by Titania's affection but soon he feels a self-importance and takes her love in stride with no self-doubt or humility.

6. Bottom says, “…reason and love keep little company together nowadays.” Why is this such an apt statement at this point in the play?

This is such an apt and fitting quote in this point of the play because it’s describing one of the themes Shakespeare conveys in how love is of irrational and unpredictable nature. And at this point in the play it makes a lot of sense for it shows the nature of love and how strange things are happening throughout the play.

Helena accuses Hermia of taking part in this mockery and making fun of her with Lysander and Demetrius. She thinks that all three of them are mocking her.

5. How close had Hermia and Helena been in the past?

They had been very close and grew up together with a strong friendship. Almost like sisters.

6. How does Lysander treat Hermia? Why can’t she believe what he says?

Lysander treats Hermia awfully → And like he doesn’t love her anymore. He expresses his interest in Helena due to the potion. She can’t believe what he says because he is supposed to be in love with her and they were planning to run away and elope.

Oberon is going to ask Titania again for the Indian child and than once she gives him over he will turn her back to normal.

12. Why doesn’t Oberon fear the coming of day?

fairies are free to move day and night. Vanish in daylight be visible and not visible.

13. How well does Puck’s trickery work?

It works very well. He causes Bottoms head to turn into an ass. He causes chaos with the love potions being placed on the mortals and he creates conflict and chaos between the characters.
