Paper 3

Chesil Beach:

Summary:

  • Hypothesis - “Pebble length will become smaller with distance from Abbotsbury to Portland”

  • Suitable Site - Proximity to School, Clear Evidence, Easy Accessibility

  • How we tested the hypothesis - Pebble Measuring (Length/Roundness), Beach Profile, Field Sketch

  • Risk Assessment - Drowning, Injury on Rocks, Exposure to Sun

  • Conclusion - The hypothesis is incorrect, Pebble Length increased

Trends:

  • Pebble Length Increased from Abbotsbury to Portland

  • Pebble Roundness Decreased from the Shore to the Beach

  • The angle of the slope Increased from Abbotsbury to Portland (It got Steeper)

Evaluation:

  • Next time go to more than 3 sites

  • Use better equipment - Use Callipers to measure the pebbles instead of a ruler

  • Take multiple results for each distance and calculate an average

London:

Summary:

  • Hypothesis - “The regeneration of Stratford, London, has had a positive impact on the locality”

  • Location - In Central London, North of Canary Warf and West of Barking

  • Suitable Site - East and West of Stratfor Station, there has been highly varying amounts of regeneration, Great Accessibility

  • Methods of Data Collection - Environmental Quality Survey, Questionnaire, Pedestrian Count, Field Sketch

  • Risk Assessment - Getting Lost, Traffic, Stranger Danger

  • Conclusion - The hypothesis is accurate however this increased housing forcing people out and also left the eastern side of Stratford much poorer

Trends:

  • As you moved west in Stratford, the environmental quality decreased

  • As you moved west the pedestrian count increased, until you leave Westfields where it then began to decrease again

  • People rated the quality of Stratford higher post 2012 compared to pre 2012

Evaluation:

  • Increase the scale of the environment quality from 5 to 10

  • Add more questions to the questionnaire

  • Have multiple groups at the same site at different times to compare pedestrian count
