Adenosine = Adenine + Ribose
ATP is like a spring bc it shoves all the negatively charged phosphates together (negatives repel e/o)
shoves them tg by creating bonds between them
(compresses like a spring)
ATP Hydrolysis: energy is released from ATP when the 3rd Phosphate group is broken off
bond between 2nd and 3rd phosphate is broken
Exergonic Reaction
creates ADP
ADP: Adenosine Diphosphate
contains some energy, but not as much as ATP
ADP Phosphorylation: addition of a phosphate group to ADP
regenerates ATP
requires energy (Endergonic)
Humans get the energy needed to perform ADP Phosphorylation from the breakdown of food molecules (like glucose) —> through process of Cellular Respiration
