Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): Recycling Collection
- Facility Location: 8030 S. County Rd 5 Windsor, CO 80528.
- Primary Goal: To ensure regulatory compliance, prevent financial contamination penalties, and maintain dumpster security.
- General Rule: All items must be Empty, Clean, and Dry. Items soiled with food, liquids, or bio-hazardous waste are classified as trash.
Approved Recyclable Materials
- Paper & Cardboard: Office paper, mail, and flattened cardboard boxes (plastic/bubble wrap inserts must be removed).
- Plastics: Bottles, jugs, tubs, and jars with lids reattached. Items that can be punctured by a finger are NOT recyclable.
- Metals & Glass: Aluminum/metal food and beverage cans, glass bottles, and jars.
Strictly Prohibited Materials
- Contamination Risks (Trigger Fines): Plastic bags, grocery bags, and plastic film/stretch wrap.
- Sanitary/Medical Waste: Medical waste, latex gloves, bio-hazardous material, paper towels, tissues, and napkins.
- Food Packaging: Styrofoam and food-soiled packaging, such as greasy coffee cups.
Step-by-Step Disposal Procedure
- Step 1: Collect recyclables from small wastebaskets throughout the hospital into a larger plastic liner bag.
- Step 2: Obtain dumpster keys and unlatch the lock bar on the recycling dumpster.
- Step 3: Pour items LOOSE into the recycling dumpster. It is critical that the plastic transport bag is NOT dropped into the recycling bin.
- Step 4: Dispose of the empty plastic liner bag in the regular trash dumpster.
- Step 5: Close the lid, re-engage the lock bar, lock the primary gate, and return the keys.
