  • Plants cannot make gametes via meiosis because the organism is already haploid.

Vocab

  • Cycad: Cone-bearing, palm-like plants mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions.
  • Gink: Maidenhair tree; only Ginkgo species alive today.
    • Male trees are planted as ornamentals. Females produce smelly seeds.
  • Gnetophyte: Seed-bearing plants that can grow as shrubs, trees, or vines, and share similarities with both gymnosperms and angiosperms.
  • Conifer: The most diverse group of gymnosperms, including pines, hemlocks, and spruces.

Pine Trees

  • Pollen sacs and ovules are located in cones.
  • Fertilization occurs when a pollen grain reaches an ovule.
