- Plants cannot make gametes via meiosis because the organism is already haploid.
Vocab
- Cycad: Cone-bearing, palm-like plants mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions.
- Gink: Maidenhair tree; only Ginkgo species alive today.
- Male trees are planted as ornamentals. Females produce smelly seeds.
- Gnetophyte: Seed-bearing plants that can grow as shrubs, trees, or vines, and share similarities with both gymnosperms and angiosperms.
- Conifer: The most diverse group of gymnosperms, including pines, hemlocks, and spruces.
Pine Trees
- Pollen sacs and ovules are located in cones.
- Fertilization occurs when a pollen grain reaches an ovule.
