Polymers
Some covalently bonded substances have very large molecules such as polymers (not giant structures, long molecules)
Polymers are solid at room temperature
This is because they are very large molecules made up of monomers connected by very weak intermolecular forces. However, as there is so many of these forces they require a lot of great energy to break meaning the are solid at room temperature.
Polymers can be represented as this, where n= the number of monomers. The lines on either side of the carbons going beyond the brackets mean that this a monomer able to join with others to create a polymer. The brackets an n mean it is multiple monomers, a polymer.
